Questions & Answers about Pilates Exercise Fitness
Is walking for exercise REALLY not effective enough (my doctor told me this yesterday)?
I'm 5'2" & weigh 275 lbs. I told my doctor about how I'm sluggish with no energy, & he said it's because of my weight. & he asked me how much exercise I was getting, & I told him I walk @ least 20 min. 3x/week, & he said that wasn't sufficient, & that I need to do something more vigorous. I thought it was all in my head that "walking gets me NOWHERE". I get nothing accomplished by simply walking. He said that if I do more vigorous exercise, I can lose a good amount of weight.
I have fitness tapes & DVD's here @ home. I have salsa dance, pilates, hip hop dance, aerobics, & tae bo. Which should I do 1st? & should I alternate between each type of exercise every day?
Walk for an hour a day every day at a faster pace, like a mile in at least 30 min. Someone will say that's not fast enough but it is when your not used to it, you have to build up.
Well, since you have all those tapes, just put them in a stack and do a different one every day after your walk when your all sweaty. That would be a very good workout! Then go take a shower and rest a while to cool off. As you lay there, you can feel how good it makes you feel. You will notice a difference even if it is just making you breathe easier and your clothes are a little looser.

It's a band workout apparatus that you can put your feet in two of the handles of, with the other two tied off somewhere on like a wall
or pole and do leg raises laying on your back in a mat, you can also face away from where they're tied off and hold on to the handles, cradling them to your chest, and do sit ups with the band-thereby forcing the band to stretch as you sit up, which is resistance for you. You can tie them off to something higher, like a laundry line T and put your feet in the hanging handles and use your legs to pull the handles down with your feet, which will stress your legs primarily but also your abs as a stability muscle group, and then after a few sets of that, do v-sit ups with your feet hanging elevated in the handles. Those are some ideas.. A combo of a few of all of them are sure to slay your abs. : )
