Is there anyway to avoid lower back pain when playing roller hockey?

Whenever I play hockey I get severe lower back pain. I try to stretch out as much a possible, however it get to the point where I can no longer skate. I'm wondering if this is because I haven't played roller hockey in 5 years.

Perhaps my muscles are adjusting and/or strengthening or perhaps my posture is bad when skating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes it is because you have not played in a while. When I was forced to sit out a few months I had the same issues when restarting ice. It was really bad on the face offs. But it does go away. It just takes time . Stretching does help , But it is a matter of your muscles getting used to skating and game style again . Some core exercises can help. But it will go away as soon as your body gets used to playing again .

The most important issues are support and comfort. With any mattress if it’s too firm, it going to put a lot of pressure on your spine and cause you a lot of pain. Memory foam would probably be your best bet for a mattress that will be comfortable but also provide the perfect support you need. Ask the question on their facebook pages and see what their owners say. I would suggest taking a look at bedinabox.com. I had some back pain, nowhere near a herniated disc, but after a lot of research I found their website, selling American made mattresses that was very comfortable, for a whole lot less than Temperpedic or Sleep Number. After I bought a mattress with a down cover, my back pain went away.
